The Chinese Garden of Friendship wellbeing walk for war widows, defence and veteran families
Step into the calm of the gardens and take a breath. On Friday 6 March 2026, we invite war widows, defence and veteran families to join us for a wellbeing walk through the Chinese Garden of Friendship — an incredible Chinese garden to explore, located in the heart of Darling Harbour and facilitated by our Wellbeing Team.
Whether you’re navigating life after service, grief, or the ongoing demands of defence life, this free activity offers an opportunity to care for yourself and share time with others who understand. The Chinese Garden of Friendship is a place to get lost in for hours and is known as one of the best things to do in Sydney!
Wellbeing walk
War widows, defence and veteran families are invited to come together for a relaxing wellbeing walk through the tranquil Chinese Garden of Friendship at Darling Harbour. This gentle, guided stroll offers a peaceful opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy meaningful conversation in a supportive and welcoming environment.
Accessibility:
Pathways and pavilions in the lower garden are accessible for wheelchairs, buggies and prams; however steps and rocky pathways make the upper part of the Garden difficult to access. The closest passenger drop-off point to the garden is on Harbour Street.
Directions:
The Chinese Garden of Friendship is easily accessible by public transport, with light rail services stopping at Paddy’s Markets or Town Hall, both a short walk away. From Central Station, it’s a pleasant 15–20 minute walk through Chinatown and Darling Harbour.
Meet FOV staff at the front entrance of the Chinese Garden of Friendship, located on the western side of the garden, opposite Fratelli Fresh Darling Harbour. Please see below pictures.

There is no cost for this activity. Your admission to the Chinese Garden of Friendship will be covered by Families of Veterans Guild.
Previous attendees to wellbeing activities said “I just wanted to express my gratitude for being able to connect with such a wonderful group. It was such a great opportunity to do a self-care activity and get to know some of the other attendees at the same time.”
