With all of 2024’s new ideas and recommendations for future wellbeing activities, our Wellbeing Program has been able to kick off the new year with a variety of fun activities that range from play and bonding to reflection and self care. Take a look at a couple of activities that were held recently and how our Wellbeing team is able to accord for all audiences!
Timezone
On 15 January, veteran families gathered at Dee Why RSL for a day of fun organised with the help of Northern Beaches RSL Lifecare Veteran Hub. Attendees enjoyed activities such as bowling, bumper cars, and games at the Timezone in Dee Why RSL, providing an opportunity for kids and adults a day with bonding and play away from their usual caring and service responsibilities.
The event created a space for families to connect with one another and engage with stakeholders dedicated to supporting their wellbeing. Participants appreciated the chance to relax and socialise, with one attendee saying “Thank you so much for funding this fun day. We had so much fun with the kids and loved meeting other veteran families.”
This initiative highlights the importance of creating supportive and enjoyable environments for war widows, defence and veteran families, fostering community connections and addressing their unique needs.
Vision board workshop
Veteran families, including war widows, gathered over Zoom on 16 January for an evening of creativity and intention setting in an online vision board workshop. Participants created personalised digital vision boards to visualise their goals and maintain accountability throughout the year.
The session introduced attendees to the Canva platform, equipping them with a new skill they could apply to other areas of their lives. Beyond the creative exercise, the event allowed meaningful connections as participants shared their goals, self-care strategies and individual wellbeing plans for the year ahead, one participant saying “It was very cathartic to slowly and carefully create something just for me.”
Activities like these provide a space for reflection, goal-setting, and community building, supporting the wellbeing of defence and veteran families as they step into the new year.
If these activities don’t resonate with you or perhaps you missed the day, our Wellbeing Program has many plans for this year thanks to lots of feedback and recommendations from attendees and will be hosting several activities that apply to all.
