This Veteran’s Health Week, we invite Sydney veteran families to experience sound healing in Chatswood
Are you the partner of a current serving ADF member, a veteran spouse, parent of a veteran, adult child of a veteran, a widow, or connected to Defence in another way? As part of Veterans’ Health Week, we warmly invite veteran families to join us for sound healing in our Chatswood office on Wednesday 9 October 2024, brought to you by our Wellbeing Program.
The theme of Veterans’ Health Week 2024 is Keep Connected. This theme aims to promote good health and wellbeing in the everyday life of veteran families and shines a light on the importance of social connection.
Families of veterans can sometimes experience overwhelm when balancing the demands of supporting family, the impact of ADF service and/or in caring roles due to illness, injury or transitions. Social connection is at the core of our wellbeing events. In addressing social isolation and loneliness, we acknowledge that veteran families may face barriers in developing and maintaining peer connections due to the unique nature of Defence life. The purpose of this event is to encourage the families of veterans to engage in a self-care activity and expand their social network by connecting with like-minded peers.
Sound healing session
Veteran families are invited to come together and experience a unique modality of relaxation through sound healing. The session will be facilitated by UNSW approved music tutor and certified yoga instructor Bianca Teremi from the Heart and Soul Yoga studio in Cronulla. Attendees will hear a variety of calming sounds, including crystal singing bowls, promoting wellness and relaxation.
The sound healing session will be followed by a healthy catered lunch where attendees can continue connecting with their peers.
Wear comfortable clothing, bring a yoga mat and small blanket or jacket to keep warm during the sound healing session. There is no cost for this event. The sound healing session and lunch will be provided by Families of Veterans Guild.
Previous attendees said “I have never been good at meditating, but this sound healing session dropped me into a deep state of relaxation without even trying! I felt so calm afterward as if I awoke from a deep restorative sleep. I cannot wait to do it again”.
