Wellbeing walk for Canberra veteran families

Reconnect in nature: wellbeing walk for war widows, defence and veteran families

The everyday challenges of defence life — relocation, absence, grief, or caregiving — can shape the lives of war widows and veteran families. On Friday 3 October 2025, we invite you to join our free wellbeing walk through Lake Burley Griffin, designed to bring people together for connection, conversation and fresh air.

Open to war widows, defence and veteran families of all ages and experiences, this walk is a space to unwind, share time with others, and take care of your wellbeing through gentle movement and social connection, brought to you by our Wellbeing Program.

Wellbeing walk

War widows, defence and veteran families are invited to come together for a 1 hour walk along Lake Burley Griffin, offering an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the area while connecting with peers. Bring along the kids this school holidays for a morning of exercise and connection. The approx. 4km walk will include complimentary coffee or tea at one of the local cafes.

Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing. This includes but is not limited to; a hat, sunscreen, enclosed shoes that provide effective support to walk a moderate distance. Also, consider wearing long sleeves and pants to reduce the risk of sun exposure and if necessary, wet weather gear which may include a rain jacket.

Parking is available near the cafe.

There is no cost for this activity. Your wellbeing walk and drink will be covered by Families of Veterans Guild.

Previous attendees to Wellbeing activities said “I really appreciate the opportunity to connect with such a supportive group. It was a perfect way to focus on self-care and make meaningful connections with others.”
