Reconnect in nature: wellbeing walk and lunch for war widows, defence and veteran families
Join us for a walk surrounded by fresh air, greenery and good company. This free wellbeing walk and lunch invites all war widows, defence and veteran families to come together to connect with peers through a nature walk and lunch at a local cafe on Friday 5 December 2025.
Whether you’re the partner, parent, child or carer of someone who served, this is a chance to slow down, enjoy the outdoors and connect with others who share an understanding of the unique path of military family life. This activity will be facilitated by our Wellbeing Team.
Wellbeing walk
War widows, defence and veteran families are invited to come together for a 1 hour walk along Lake Burley Griffin, offering an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of the area while connecting with peers. The approximate 4km walk will include lunch (one complimentary meal per person) at a local cafe.
Wear comfortable, weather appropriate clothing. This includes but is not limited to; a hat, sunscreen, enclosed shoes that provide effective support to walk a moderate distance. Also, consider wearing long sleeves and pants to reduce the risk of sun exposure and if necessary, wet weather gear which may include a rain jacket.
Parking is available near the cafe.
There is no cost for this activity. Your wellbeing walk and lunch will be covered by Families of Veterans Guild.
Previous attendees to wellbeing activities said “I really appreciate the opportunity to connect with such a supportive group. It was a perfect way to focus on self-care and make meaningful connections with others.”
