Australian War Widows NSW will soon become the Families of Veterans Guild
In December 2023, the Board wrote to all members to let them know the results of the branding consultation work. We have since also written to all our major stakeholders to let them know about the changes that will be taking place to the brand name in the coming months.
Work continues in the background, preparing for the transition of the brand and we will shortly send a special update on the branding work to all members and subscribers. Our priority is to ensure that Australia never forgets its war widows and that they continue to receive the support and recognition they deserve. To do this, we must continue to be seen and heard, remain relevant and carry forward a legacy that will support the next generation. As our incredible founder Jessie Vasey CBE OBE shared with us almost 70 years ago, “We are now becoming an older women’s group, and I feel that if we remain as such, the organisation will die. We must become an inclusive group if we are to survive.”
Changing the name the organisation operates under will open the door to every person connected to a veteran, so everybody in our broader community has a place to call home. It also reflects our will to change our model of support, making it available to the families of veterans when they need it, as opposed to waiting until their loved one passes away.
While our brand will change, our commitment to our war widows remains as they experience it today. War widows are integral to our organisation. They are our members and represented at every level of the organisation, right through to the Board. This will not change.
