Thank you to everyone who attended our third virtual community town hall on 31 August 2022. This town hall was facilitated by CEO, Renee Wilson and explored the experiences of widows and veterans’ families.
The group connected through their lived experiences, and it was a privilege to watch these bonds start to form. The group shared their stories and experiences on what it is like to support a loved one through their service in the ADF. The issues touch on by participants were wide ranging and can be distilled into the following broad observations:
- Veterans’ families are left out of the veteran system and rarely supported in their own right.
- When they are, the veteran system doesn’t meet contemporary needs.
- Children of Afghanistan veterans are suffering as a result of their father’s service.
Our next town hall will be on 27 October 2022 at 4.30pm to 6.00pm and you can register your attendance here. This town hall will continue our conversations from August and will focus on what it is like to care for and support a loved one who is injured, ill during their defence service.
