Families of Veterans Guild

Michelle Carr

Families of Veterans Guild board member, war widow Michelle Carr.

Michelle Carr

Board Director

Michelle Carr is a contemporary war widow, a mother of two, and a ceramic artist with a background in corporate communications. Michelle lost her husband, Major Matthew Carr, in 2015 at age 38 years, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, and has spent the years since navigating life, grief, and motherhood, while rebuilding her identity and career.

Michelle brings to the Board both lived experience and professional expertise. With a career in communications spanning over a decade, she understands governance, strategy, and advocacy. As an emerging artist and founder of Michelle Carr Ceramics, she has seen the healing power of art firsthand, how hands-on creativity fosters wellbeing, connection, and transformation. Her work has been exhibited in public memorials and galleries, and much of it explores themes of grief, resilience, and hope.

Michelle believes families are an essential part of the veteran community, not only as support systems, but as storytellers and changemakers. The Guild has long recognised this, and she is committed to helping amplify those voices and roles.

Michelle is also a volunteer ambassador for Dress for Success, advocating for women re-entering the workforce after disruption. Through this role, and her growing connection with veteran support organisations, she sees how vital it is to preserve legacy while evolving to meet the current needs of families.

Michelle brings empathy, integrity, and a collaborative spirit to the Guild.
