Awareness & Advocacy
The purpose of our Awareness and Advocacy work is to address gaps in the veteran support system in its design and implementation.
To address issues in the operation of the system. Identifying and advocating for the needs of veteran families and war widows, building public knowledge, awareness and systems of support.
Our work includes:
- Annual events such as War Widows Day
- Stakeholder and community engagements and consultations on matters affecting veteran families and war widows.
- Advocacy campaigns including National War Widows Day and Veteran Family Recognition.
- Enjoy training and ongoing education opportunities
- Representing community interest at consultations, with stakeholders and government.
- Written submissions and engagements with Royal Commission and within sector on veteran family matters.
- Thought leadership, policy proposals and public relations.

Annual events
At Families of Veterans Guild, we host events for families of veterans each year, offering an opportunity for war widows and broader families to connect or support each other and commemorate together.
Major events held annually, include:
- ANZAC Field of Remembrance – April
- Member only events such as our AGM – July/August
- War Widows Day Service – 19 October
Advocacy
Providing a voice to the families of veterans is at the heart of everything we do.
Our relentless advocacy provides a voice for war widows and veteran families. We make sure their needs, views and opinions are heard, by the community, government and its Departments. This has been the cornerstone of our work since 1946.


Exclusive webinars
To raise awareness, Families of Veterans Guild delivers regular webinars to cover issues and hold discussions relevant to defence and veterans families.
Our webinars aim to cover topics that empower defence and veterans families member to live their best lives and that also raise the general public’s awareness on issues affecting defence families. We aim to break down barriers and encourage discussions that can be difficult but essential.
Our webinars are free and delivered via an online platform. If you are unable to attend, you can catch up on the recording at a time that suits you.
