ANZAC Field of Remembrance
Honouring service, sacrifice, and the families who carry their legacy
The ANZAC Field of Remembrance is a deeply personal ANZAC Week commemoration that honours those who have served and gave their lives in service to Australia—and the families who carry their memory.
Established in Sydney in 1952 by war widows, it was created so families could actively take part in remembrance—laying their own tributes ahead of ANZAC Day, not just observing. Today, it remains one of the few commemorations where war widows, defence and veteran families are at the centre of remembrance.
Held at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney, each cross laid at the Field carries a name, a story, and a legacy, representing service and the ongoing impact of service and sacrifice on those left behind.
For those unable to attend, the Virtual Field of Remembrance ensures anyone can take part, from anywhere.
How you can get involved

Join the 2026 service in Sydney
The 74th ANZAC Field of Remembrance service will be held on Thursday 23 April 2026 at St Andrew’s Cathedral in Sydney. All members of our community, widows and veteran families are invited to join the service and lay their tributes to their loved ones. Service will be followed by a member-only lunch.
Register your attendance to the service here.
For those outside of Sydney, you will be able to watch the service live or watch the recording later online from our YouTube channel.
Commemorate from anywhere
We know not everyone can attend in person, so we ensure everyone has the chance to be part of this tradition.
Livestream the service: The ANZAC Field of Remembrance is broadcast live, so war widows and veteran families around the country can join the ceremony from wherever they are. Recording of our last service is available here.
Leave a virtual tribute
Our Virtual Field of Remembrance is always open. You can place a free tribute online — add a name, a personal message, and select a sprig of wattle, rosemary, or poppy to honour your loved one.
Every cross, every name, every message is part of a shared act of remembrance for those who served, and for the families who continue to carry that legacy.
Lay a cross from afar
Families can request a memorial cross to be laid on their behalf. Each cross bears a loved one’s name and a message, placed with care in the Field by our team.
The opportunity to request a tribute opens around the month of the ANZAC Field of Remembrance in April. To organise, call our team on (02) 9267 6577 or email guild@fov.org.au.
On ANZAC month, we remember
“We gather here not only to remember, but to continue. To continue honouring, to continue telling their stories, and to continue supporting each other.”
