‘How can we inspire inclusion’ covers the subject of inclusion for women, noting issues we often hear about women becoming more invisible as they age, especially in sectors that are traditionally male dominated – sectors that also benefit of their inclusion.

This webinar delivered an educated conversation around inclusion and will cover:

The impact of agism and how it affects women of every age.

The importance and benefits of intra-generational connections and inclusion.

The barriers to this.

How a village of support can be built with a variety of people, of various age and backgrounds.

Dear Member,

August is turning out to be another of those defining months in 2020. On 15 August, we celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Victory in the Pacific. In 1945, VP Day was gazetted as a public holiday. Today, we can only remember that defining moment.

The growing crisis of older people in care reminds us about the fragility of life at any age. Should you need more support at home, I encourage you to seek support from DVA.

Please wear a mask if you are in any public place and you can always contact me or the office on 9267 6577 if you need any guidance.

Take care and stay safe,

Dear Members,

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 War Widows’ Walk & Picnic in Concord is deemed as a high-risk event due to the virus’ potential to spread among our Members who are more vulnerable. Therefore, it is with great sadness that I write to you about the Board’s decision to cancel this year’s War Widows’ Walk & Picnic, which was scheduled for Thursday, 10 September 2020. This decision was not easy, but we believe that we are acting in our Members’ best interests.

Over the years, we have seen the War Widows’ Walk & Picnic celebrate companionship and camaraderie in a wonderful space at Concord. While we are unable to enjoy this gathering and the living memorial of the Kokoda Track, I trust that we will continue to build our resilience, both personally and as an organisation as we have done in the past.

As always, if you need any support or help during these challenging times, please do not hesitate to call me or our office staff on 02 9267 6577.

Thinking of you,

We’ve only just started a new month and there’s so much to share with each of you. Firstly, I want to thank each of our Friendship Line Volunteers who have risen to the herculean task of Volunteering from Home. Your support to our Members, far and wide is so critical at this time. In partnering with Western Sydney University, we aim to connect with all our Country Members and support them as best we can. Covid-19 has certainly allowed us to create new ways of connecting. The Younger War Widows are creating new experiences including hosting online parties!

I hope you enjoy reading this week\’s newsletter, in which we continue to recognise our veterans. We also celebrate all 164 members who had their birthday in May. Five members turned 100 years old, what an achievement!
