Take a breath with a guided meditation for defence and veteran families

We’re in Townsville with another wellbeing activity for defence and veteran families. On Friday 19 June 2026, join us at Live and Breathe Yoga for an hour of guided breathwork and meditation, a chance to settle the mind and reset.

Breathwork and meditation session

This wellbeing activity will feature a 1 hour guided session to support calm, clarity and nervous system regulation.

This experience combines gentle breathwork and a guided meditation to help participants unwind. No experience necessary.

Paint and dine together for Townsville veteran families

Paint, plate, repeat at Tipsy Doodle for war widows, defence and veteran families

Come for the painting, stay for the dinner, leave with your creation! Join us in Townsville on Friday 19 June 2026 for our third wellbeing activity in the region: a painting session and meal at Tipsy Doodle Art Studio.

Paint and dine together

A 1.5 hour guided painting session will be facilitated by Tipsy Doodle, suitable for all skill levels, with step-by-step instruction and all art materials provided.

Attendees will create their own artwork to take home and connect with other veteran families. A meal will be provided during the activity.

Previous wellbeing activity attendees have said “Thank you for organising a space where I can learn new ways of being and make connections with other individuals and families walking a similar path.”

Sound immersion and meditation for Townsville veteran families

Lie back and listen: sound immersion for war widows defence and veteran families

We’re back in Townsville for our second wellbeing activity in the area, and we’d love for you to join us. On Saturday 20 June 2026, defence and veteran families are invited to settle in for a guided sound immersion and meditation, a chance to slow down and switch off.

Sound immersion and meditation

Families of Veterans Guild invite defence and veteran families to a guided sound immersion and meditation session. Facilitated by Jess of Bodhi Sound Healing, this experience offers a chance to reconnect and reset. No experience needed, just come as you are, lie down, and receive.

Previous attendees to wellbeing activities said “The sound immersion session was a wonderful way to unwind, deeply relax, and reconnect with myself.”

Veteran family dinner at Pirate Life Brewing for defence and veteran families

Join us on Tuesday 5 May for our second veteran family dinner at Pirate Life Brewing! After the success of our very first Veteran Family Dinner hosted in March in Adelaide, we are coming back to offer local families a chance to connect again, and those who missed out a chance to connect with their community.

Come along for a relaxed evening at Pirate Life Brewing, meet others who understand the unique challenges of defence life, and spend some time together over a shared meal. We’re looking forward to continuing to build connections locally.

Veteran family dinner

Defence and veteran families are warmly invited to join us for dinner at Pirate Life Brewing. It’s a wonderful opportunity to share a meal in a relaxed setting, meet some of our team in person, and connect with others who understand the unique experiences of defence and veteran family life. Whether you’re hoping to meet new people or simply enjoy a night out, we’d love to see you there.

There is little to no cost for this activity. Families of Veterans Guild will cover meals, beverages are not included.

Canberra Reptile Zoo visit for defence and veteran families

A special family day out at Canberra Reptile Zoo

Defence and veteran families are invited to join us for a special morning at the Canberra Reptile Zoo, made possible through a new collaboration between Families of Veterans Guild and Soldier On. Bringing together the strengths of both organisations, this activity has been created to give defence and veteran families the opportunity to connect, spend time together, and enjoy a unique experience in a welcoming environment.

Taking place on Tuesday 14 April 2026, the visit will include a guided zoo tour and an exciting reptile show, giving families the chance to get up close with some fascinating animals. Facilitated by our Wellbeing Team alongside Soldier On, the morning is designed not only as a fun day out, but also as a space where families can meet others who share similar experiences and build supportive connections within the veteran family community.

Defence and veteran families are warmly invited to join the Family of Veterans Guild and Soldier On for a fun and engaging morning at the Canberra Reptile Zoo. Enjoy a guided zoo tour and an exciting reptile show where you’ll get up close with some amazing creatures. It’s a great opportunity for families to connect, explore, and share a memorable experience together.

Guided meditation for ADF families in Townsville

On Tuesday 31 March 2026, we’re hosting our first ever wellbeing activity in Townsville, a first step in expanding support to areas where veteran family‑specific services are limited. Facilitated by our Wellbeing Team, this guided meditation session offers a practical and accessible way for defence and veteran families to pause, focus on self‑care, and connect in person.

We recognise that there is limited specialised support locally for family members of current or former serving personnel of the Australian Defence Force. By delivering this targeted support in Townsville, we are addressing an unmet need and hoping to strengthen the wellbeing of the broader veteran family community.

Guided meditation

Defence and veteran families are warmly invited to join us for a guided meditation session at Inner Light Meditation Centre. This evening marks our very first wellbeing activity for families held in the state, and we’re excited to bring the community together in person.

The session will begin with a guided breathing exercise to reduce tension, followed by a short meditation introducing practical mindfulness skills. It focuses on simple, everyday techniques for managing stress, improving clarity, and supporting emotional regulation, with no prior experience required.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to focus on self-care, meet some of our team in person, and connect with others who understand the unique experiences of defence and veteran family life. Whether you’re hoping to meet new people or simply take part in a wellbeing activity, we’d love to see you there.

There is no cost for this activity. Your mindfulness session will be covered by Families of Veterans Guild.
