A bear, a voice, a keepsake: Build-A-Bear for defence and veteran families

Bring the kids along for a morning of making something special to keep. On Friday 10 July 2026, defence and veteran families are invited to our Chatswood office for a Build-A-Bear workshop. This wellbeing activity will let each child customise their own bear with a personal audio message inside.

Build-A-Bear workshop

Each child will build and customise a bear that includes a personalised recorded audio message. The recording can contain an affirmation, favourite quote, or message from a loved one.

The small, portable bear is designed to provide comfort and a sense of connection during periods of separation by carrying meaningful memories and familiar voices.

Previous attendees have said “I enjoyed connecting and sharing conversations with others from around the country, spending quality time with my family, and participating in a a different activity.”

Location: Families of Veterans Guild Chatswood, Level 1, 9 Help St Chatswood, NSW (14min ride from Central/Ryde to Chatswood).
Date and Time: Friday 10 July 2026, 10.30am – 12.30pm.
Cost: FREE for families of veterans.

Craft and afternoon tea

War widows, defence and veteran families are invited to join us at Kissingpoint Cottage for a relaxing afternoon of craft and connection. We will provide craft kits and afternoon tea for all attendees to enjoy. This is a wonderful opportunity to unwind, get creative, and spend time with others in the community.

Previous attendees to wellbeing activities said “I just wanted to express my gratitude for being able to connect with such a wonderful group. It was such a great opportunity to do a self-care activity and get to know some of the other attendees at the same time.”

Craft activities for Canberra veteran families

Create and connect with craft kits for war widows, defence and veteran families in Canberra

Join us in Canberra on Friday 27 February for a relaxed morning of hands‑on creativity, facilitated by our Wellbeing Team. Attendees will be able to choose from simple craft activities involving paints, clay, candles and gems, providing a relaxing session to get crafty and bring your creation home afterwards.

It’s an easy way to unwind, meet others in the veteran community, and enjoy the benefits of doing something mindful together with the craft kit of your choice!

Craft activities

War widows, defence and veteran families are invited to come together for a relaxed and creative morning of connection. Attendees will have the opportunity to choose a craft kit to work on, such as gem art, painting sea shells, candle making, or clay art, and enjoy time to unwind and express their creativity at their own pace. This welcoming session offers a chance to connect with others in a supportive environment while engaging in hands-on activities that encourage mindfulness, relaxation, and wellbeing.

There is no cost for this activity. Your craft kit and morning tea will be covered by Families of Veterans Guild and Queanbeyan Veteran and Family Hub.
